Longview Urology Offers New Technology for Stone Treatment

Patrick M. Lassen, M.D.
Cowlitz County residents now have access to the latest stone treatment technology. Longview Urology has announced the arrival of two new Compact Delta II lithotripters that will provide the most advanced treatment for patients suffering from kidney stones.
The machines, which are currently being used at more than 30 hospitals, will service patients at Pacific Surgical Center and St. John Medical Center. Patrick M. Lassen, M.D., Chad C. Chesley, M.D., and John T. Mansfield, M.D. – all of Longview Urology – are certified to use the new lithotripters.
Produced by industry leader Dornier MedTech, the Compact Delta II breaks new ground by combining extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) technology with state-of-the-art imaging.
“The integration of the shockwave system with the high-quality x-ray imaging is a significant benefit for patients,” Lassen said. “The alignment on the targeted area is very precise, and that means we can maximize the treatment delivery and minimize the treatment time.”
The Delta II also provides real-time monitoring of the disintegration process so that the physician can adjust as necessary to ensure the best possible results.
“The machine also has a unique treatment head with the flexibility to more easily treat larger patients,” Lassen said.
Researchers estimate that 10 to 20 percent of Americans will suffer from kidney stones in their lifetimes. Symptoms include fever and chills, vomiting, sharp pain in the back or side, a burning sensation when urinating, and blood in the urine.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, contact your health care provider.
